1. Who We Are

SpeakUpNigeria ("we", "us", "our") is a Nigerian polling platform operated at speakupnigeria.ng. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the platform:

  • Email address — only if you choose to create a poll or optionally verify your vote. Never required to vote.
  • Browser fingerprint — a non-personal technical identifier used to prevent duplicate votes. It cannot identify you personally.
  • IP address — used to verify Nigerian residency for voting and prevent vote manipulation. Not stored permanently.
  • Poll responses — your vote choice (option selected) on polls you participate in.
  • Google account info — if you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google only.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To prevent duplicate votes and ensure poll integrity
  • To verify that voters are located in Nigeria
  • To associate polls with their creators
  • To send poll result notifications (only if you opt in)
  • We never sell your data to third parties
  • We never use your data for advertising

4. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (PostgreSQL database hosted in the EU) and served via Vercel's global edge network. Poll images are stored on Cloudflare R2. All providers are GDPR-compliant.

5. Cookies

We use minimal cookies only for authentication sessions (if you sign in). We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. Your vote preference is stored in your browser's localStorage to prevent duplicate voting UI — this data never leaves your device.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Request a copy of data we hold about you
  • Withdraw consent at any time

7. Children's Privacy

SpeakUpNigeria is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by posting a notice on the platform.
